Hulu has blocked direct Kylo access.  Here is how to get around it:

download kylo
open browser and go to about:config in the URL search bar
agree to the disclaimer (you can always re-install)
type useragent into the filter bar
double click on the useragent.extra.polo field
clear the field and press ok
Go to Hulu.com
enjoi

This will make your kylo.tv homepage no longer display the quick links.

If you don’t want to lose the “quick links” menu, instead of clearing the field, insert @Kylo in the field.

As it did with Boxee, Hulu may implement more blocks, but this works well for now.

Thanks guys, this works great!!  No Hulu was a deal-breaker for me, and I’m glad that this patch was published.  Now if I can only get the menu and dock to disappear properly after viewing something from Netflix (See my other post in this subforum)

need some help.

I’m far from being a computer guru but can usually follow instructions.

I got this far “download kylo open browser and go to about”

Not sure what I’m doing wrong but can’t seem to get any farther?

Any clarification, or better yet- screen shots would be helpful.

thanks

It appears that Hulu has discovered this fix, and is now blocking Kylo again if you are using “Kylo” in the field, per Las Vegas Mixx.  It still works if the field is left blank, but it would be nice if we could find a fix and keep the quick links.  Anyone have any ideas?

In the “WWW” field at the bottom of the window, replace “http://www.kylo.tv”, with “about:config” (without the quotation marks).

Continue per instructions.

Well, Hillcrest could probably make a simple fix by not automatically redirecting http://connect.kylo.tv to http://www.kylo.tv when it does not find ‘kylo’ in the Mozilla general.useragent.extra.polo field.  Instead they could make a simple alert() popup warning users that the site will not work properly with non-Kylo browsers.

However, I doubt that they will do this without competitive pressure from other devices/browsers, like the forthcoming release of Dlink’s Boxee box, with Hulu viewing enabled.

For those following this issue, version 0.7 Beta of Kylo (released today) provides a simpler user interface to accomplish the user agent switching that’s described in this thread. Importantly, Kylo maintains the user agent switch on a per-domain basis, so switching agents for hulu.com, for example, will not affect the ability of Kylo to load the connect.kylo.tv directory.

For step-by-step directions, please look here: http://kylo.tv/community/viewthread/71/

Apparently Hulu quickly caught up - I just visited Hulu using Kylo a day later using the Firefox fix. Hulu begins playing the video but 20 seconds into it you end up with the error that the platform is not supported. I am using a Mac machine.

I’ve tried Hulu recently after the update and was able to watch a good portion of a show before shutting it off. I didn’t bother testing the whole episode, but does anyone know if somehow the last update has fixed the problem or are they just slow to strike smile?
